Tequeños (5 pcs)

Tequeños are the most popular Tapa in Venezuela. The love for this dish is so strong, in the Caribbean Country, that it is common to hear the people say "There is no party without Tequeños" . The first recorded existence of this tapa comes from the nineteen century when it is believed they were originated. Their name comes from the City of "Los Teques", a neighbour city to the Capital, Caracas, where the wealthy families, from the latter one, used to spend long periods during the holidays. Tequeños are believed to have been created in the kitchen of one of these wealthy families, where they ate well and varied. Given to the presence of hand-made pasta, a luxury that indicated well-off families, cooks used the remaining dough to create and filled it with cheese. The Tequeño originally was used to eat on a plate, sometimes sprinkled with sugar and also as something to nibble, although some families served tequeños as an appetizer on the table, apart from the main course. Later tequeños (tequenos) became just appetizers and are present in all the celebrations in Venezuela, and now they will become a guest on the Australian table.
