       What is Papelon?

Papelon, Panela or Panela de Papelon are three different names  given to an intermediate product of the  sugar manufacturing process. Of brown colour, this sugar loaf is commonly used in Venezuela, where it can be found in the preparation  of main dishes, desserts, sauces and even cold drinks

It is produced from the sugar cane juice, which is evaporated, avoiding the separation of the molasses and crystals, until  a solidified brown or yellow block is obtained.

It is also known, with different names, in other parts of the world like for example jaggery (west Bengal, South India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka), Raspadura (Cuba and Panama), Rapadou (Haiti), Rapadura (Brazil and Dominican Republic), Tapa de dulce (Costa Rica), Gula Melaka (Malaysia),

Panocha (Phillipines),Sukari nguuru (Swahili), Kokuto (Japan), Vollrohrzucker (Germany), and many others.

Papelon represents a Venezuelan tradition of flavour and that is why we have decided to bring it as  a new offer for the Australian gastronomic market. Our products, carefully selected from the traditional Venezuelan cuisine, will represent a delightful pleasure to the delicate Australian taste.
